Capacity building and training is a critical component in technical upgradation and formalization of micro food processing enterprises. At the National level, National Institute for Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) and Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT) would play pivotal role in capacity building & research. They would be eligible for financial assistance towards research and capacity building. NIFTEM and IIFPT in partnership with State Level Technical Institutions would provide training and research support to the selected micro food processing enterprises/groups/clusters. State Government should nominate a State Level Technical Institution for the Scheme.

Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) at Thrissur is recognized as the State Technical Institute (SLTI) for Capacity Building under the Scheme along with four Private Training Partners (TPs).
